The elegant Caribe Dining Table is an elegant design for in- and outdoor seating arrangements, featuring a base with hard wearing PVC strings and a metal table top. It’s part of the Caribe collection, designed by Sebastian Herkner for ames. The German designer visited Colombia together with ames founder Ana Maria Calderon-Kayser and translated the vibrancy and spirit of the country’s people and traditions into joyful, modern furniture pieces defined by clean lines, strong colours and the hand-woven webbing.

The Caribe Natural Dining Table is a design by Sebastian Herkner, featuring a beautiful wicker webbing. The shape of the table follows our popular Caribe and Caribe Chic pieces, while the beige hue of the natural material gives it a more subtle touch. In Colombia, there’s a long tradition of using the wicker to craft baskets for the arrieros, the coffee pickers, who use them to collect the beans on the plantations in the country’s hinterlands. “For Caribe, we’ve now chosen a natural wicker that has a long tradition in Colombian craftsmanship to create a chair that’s clearly made for indoor spaces”, says Sebastian Herkner. “The wicker lends the design a natural look and makes it very comfortable to sit in.

The Caribe Chic Dining Table Marble is an elegant design by Sebastian Herkner and can be used inside and outdoors. It’s part of our Caribe Chic collection, featuring an intricate hand-woven webbing in earthy, muted shades. The table top comes in three different types of fine Italian marble. All Caribe Chic pieces and colours are inspired by the incredible nature of the Colombian Huila region where the serene Tatacoa desert meets the powerful Rio Magdalena

Designer

Sebastian Herkner

Sebastian Herkner was born in Bad Mergentheim in 1981. He studied product design at HfG Offenbach am Main, and already focused on designing objects and furniture merging various cultural contexts during his studies. In 2006 he founded his own studio for objects, interior design and exhibition design in Offenbach am Main.

Today, Sebastian Herkner works for international companies, designs furniture and lamps, porcelain and glass, and also curates and stages exhibitions dealing with design. His success is already reflected in numerous awards and prizes, among them the 2011 German Design Award in the Newcomer category and the 2015 EDIDA Elle Decoration International Design Award as Best International Newcomer. Most recently, Sebastian Herkner was appointed guest of honour at imm Cologne 2016 to present his concept for “Das Haus – Interiors on Stage”.
