Soft Facet

Designed 2020

Soft Facet is a comfortable, inviting lounge armchair with a distinctive richness of detail. Its open, welcoming form feels like a soft embrace of a geometrically stitched spread, inviting you to sit back, relax and daydream. This feeling is enhanced by the fact that the entire contour of the wooden shell is foam-padded, thereby gently supporting the body, neck and head and comfortably adapting to the user’s sitting posture.

One of the rich details is the saddle leather belt that connects the front legs with the back. This refreshing, open and minimalistic design is timeless and will match many different interiors.

The high seat shell is comprised of a compressed wooden shell covered entirely with a combination of two foam layers. This ensures supreme comfort. The seat shell is fully upholstered and – as you would expect from Artifort – this is exceptional, top quality upholstery with seams, distributed over a variety of facets. A unique feature is the minimalistic four-legged metal base incorporated into the design, which can be powder-coated in a range of colours. The details include a saddle leather belt that subtly connects the front legs of the chair with the back.

Known for sensitive, subtle yet functional products, striking and often surprising use of colour and refined finishes, they have gained great acclaim in the international design world. They have applied this individual style to everything, from textiles, wood, ceramics, glass and furniture to consumer electronics and even a concept car. Studio Scholten & Baijings has realised more than a hundred projects, including collaborations with international brands such as Maharam, IKEA, HAY, Moroso, Herman Miller, Samsung and MINI. A variety of exhibitions have also been organised, including at the Cooper-Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York. The duo’s unique design vision is documented in the book Reproducing Scholten & Baijings. In 1998 Stefan Scholten (Copray & Scholten) designed the ‘Relay’ Chaise Longue for Artifort, and for more than 20 years these Relays have been located at various places in the piers of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and used heavily on a daily basis.
