Otis Sofa

Designed 2020

A subtle kink in the armrest makes all the difference. In Otis, the customizable sofa, Johan van Hengel has achieved maximal impact through minimal alteration.

For sofa Otis, Johan van Hengel aimed to create slender, efficient shapes, and he came up with a clever solution. The narrow, ‘folded’ armrests provide optimal ease of use. A slight kink in the armrest lends the sofa character, but also great comfort, which is often lacking in smaller frames. Otis is a customizable design, easily adjusted to specific size and style preferences. A wide range of options allows for great freedom of choice. Sold in modular components, the design can be combined into a modest single-seat unit, but can also form a two-, three-, four-, or ample five-seater. Additional options include an XL-version with deeper seats, or a buildable corner sofa. Seat cushions are available in firm, medium, soft and extra soft, and several of our sofas have either two or three seat cushions.

By altering the number of seat cushions, the type of upholstery and the style of undercarriage, this sofa is easily attuned to its environment. For example, in a modern interior, a model with two seat cushions, contemporary upholstery fabric and metal legs would be a suitable fit. A sofa with wooden legs and three cushions, upholstered in leather, might be better suited to more classic tastes. Thanks to its elegant profile and wide range of sizes and styles, the Otis will fulfil every seating desire.

The Otis can be combined with a matching dormeuse table, sofa arm table, console table and a free-standing side table in countless color options. Finally, the headrests complete the Otis line of accessories.
