Mezzadro

Designed 1957

In 1970 Zanotta put the “springy metal seat”, metaphorically named “Mezzadro” into production, that the Castiglioni brothers designed in 1957. “With this rather unusual homage name, the object brings to mind Neo Vanguardism, from the provocative nature of Arte Povera to the irony of Pop Art. Like a work by Duchamp, the assembly of craft-based and industrial components holds together: the farming world in the sheet metal seat and the steel crossbow, the cycling world in the fixing pin and the nautical one in the beech wood crosspiece.”

Stool with chromium-plated steel stem. Seat lacquered in the colors orange, red, yellow or black. Footrest in steam-treated beech, natural color. Available in quick ship.

Designer

Achille Castiglioni (1918 - 2002) and Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) were born in Milan where, together with their brother Livio (1911-1979) initiated their designing career entirely based on the research of “new” forms, techniques and materials. The aim was to attain an "integral" design process. Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni are among the founders of the Industrial Design Association.
