Montis

Aztec

Designed 1981
With its rounded, robust and yet soft appearance, the Aztec sofa offers a reassuring feeling of security as it embraces you from all sides.

The year is 1981. IBM introduces the first personal computer to the consumer market, Ronald Reagan starts his first term as president and Indiana Jones conquers the silver screen in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Director Paul van den Berg remembers 1981 as a breakthrough year as well. 'The Aztec is what really put Montis on the map as a manufacturer of contemporary design furniture. It set us apart in the industry.' Thanks to the identical height and width of its back and armrests, the sturdy sofa proved to be a striking newcomer in the Dutch furniture landscape. 'Its shapes have continued to inspire and appeal – not unlike a modern Chesterfield.'

Extendable
That's why Gerard van den Berg's classic design deserves a comeback. This modified version boasts an improved interior that gives the sofa its signature rounded shape, but the exterior is sleeker than that of its original predecessor. Thanks to the generous height and width of its back and armrests, the Aztec meets all your modular demands. The back can be connected to an arm panel, which easily converts your couch into a corner sofa or a custom-made, extended model.

Snug security
The firm, flat surface of the back and arm panels also serve as a comfortable place to sit or a sturdy surface for a tray, stack of books or your laptop. The angled grooves on the insides make for an interesting yet functional design detail, providing maximum support and added comfort. Just try sitting at an angle, or lie down with you head against the high armrest – you'll see that the comfort remains the same.

The Aztec is a robust yet soft roommate that offers snug security as it embraces you from all sides.

The Aztec is back at last, with a contemporary look.
